The girls got busy over the weekend plotting out a place in the back corner of our yard to start our very first garden. We have plans for squash, peas, beans, watermelon, pumpkins, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries and tomatoes.
We also got a few fruits that we are growing outside of the garden (blueberries, grapes) and we hope to get a peach tree soon :D Everyone had fun planning the garden, and we can't wait to start eating our very own fruits and veggies!
We've been working SO stinkin' hard on our yard over the last couple of weeks! It's getting close to being done now (finally!), and I'm thankful to have sod over all that mud the boys kept trucking through!! The concrete for the pool is going to be poured on Friday and then we will be able to finish up the sod and the pool deck area. We got the entire play area laid out and the gravel all spread too. We will have the trampoline and swing set in that area. The garden is at the back of the yard, next to the play area....
You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you how much stone and rock we moved last week! It was pallets and pallets of stone that we had to hand carry all over the yard and my muscles are STILL screaming! We also had to move fill dirt with a shovel and wheel barrow to fill in the area between the retaining wall we built around the pool and the fence above the pool.
Here's a shot of the back yard looking toward the back of our house....
Every night when Zack gets home from work he goes straight to the backyard to start working on moving rock around the pool deck!
Here's a shot of the retaining wall we built and the area we now get to landscape!
And this is where the swing set will go if we ever have time to build it ;D
One thing is for sure.....
Zack has PLENTY of help when he's out there shoveling!!
We're pretty much done on the inside of the house at this point. I still need to hang some pictures up in the basement and in the office, and we need to clean out and organize the garage, but that's about it! I just hate having things hanging over our heads, so I'll be happy to have it all done!
Tomorrow we plan to go buy a bunny hutch for the 2 new bunnies we promised the boys we could get for our backyard ;D
Don't tell me ANYTHING bad about bunnies cuz I already committed ;D

good luck with the garden! i don't ever remember NOT having one growing up in MN where our plants do WONDERFUL, but can't imagine the plants surviving in the southern heat! but if it works, the results are worth it. and the rest of your yard looks AWESOME!! love the pool with the play area above/behind it! and soooo impressive you've done most of it yourselves! way to go!
Looks great and it will be even more loved since all of you had a hand in creating the space. What a great family project!
Hello Jenny!
Looks great and you'll enjoy the fresh produce too! I'll share a tip, pinch off the first blossoms on the strawberry plants as well as the runners, this will establish the roots and you'll get a wonderful crop next year, unless they are everbearing, then you'll get a later crop. :o) Love the pool too! It would be a breeding ground for misquitoes here LOL!!!

Kelle
