Corn dogs for breakfast!
Uh, yeah- you did read that right! I did feed my children corn dogs for breakfast. Why?! Well, they WANTED them! Actually, they had already had breakfast- a normal breakfast. But then, a starving-to-death Matthew decided after eating an entire bagel that he was still hungry, and desperately needed a corn dog. Well, I've learned to pick my battles, and I figured it would be easier to let the starving child eat then argue with him! And EAT he did!! Then, Jacob, who had already had waffles, decided that HE needed a corn dog too.......
And they ate them- every last bite!! I'm sure you would have done the very same thing ;-)
Today was the first day of school, and we woke up to this......
And it wasn't just rain either- nope, we had nasty thunderstorms! Yuk! Oh well, at least the kids won't be stuck inside the house bored to tears- NOPE, they'll be stuck in school BORED to tears ;-)
And what's this? Is that my husband up on a ladder with the dreaded blue painter's tape?!?!
Sure enough!! This weekend my kitchen got a much-needed face-lift! We were so tired of the boring tan-colored, not to mention completely FLAT paint in that room that was a NIGHTMARE to clean and was constantly covered with yogurt and mac-n-cheese (!), that we decided to try something new. Not only that, but we like it so much that we're gonna do the whole kitchen! The breakfast area will get a glaze over it in a few days- the effect is one of Ralph Lauren's techniques, and it's called lamplight.
Speaking of paint jobs- remember when we decided to remodel the Allie & Sophie's room- oh-so-many-months-ago????? Well, believe it or not, IT'S DONE!!! And here's the proof.....
We went with a beautiful Parisian blue paint on the walls, black and white bedding and accents, and black curtains.....
We salvaged the couch from our recently re-decorated family room (just threw a white cover on it), and Allie hung up some of her own photography.....
Here's Sophie's area of the room! We brought down Emily's white wicker dresser (remember, she got new furniture) and her matching nightstand- which worked great because poor Sophie had been without a dresser since we moved here, and had been living out of plastic drawers in her closet!!
We found some great lamps and accessories.....
And we even found a place for some ballerina prints that Allie picked up on her trip to Europe!
And now for Emily's room..... remember when we started that project?!
Emily ended up with a new bed, nightstand and dresser. We also salvaged another chair from the family room by throwing a brown fitted cover on it- which worked great! Her room is a western theme- she's our Montana girl!
We painted her white bookshelves and desk with a dark red colonial paint, and it really turned out awesome- a perfect match for her bedding and new decor! The bedding was tricky- I ended up finding a sheet set that I loved in a queen size, and then I pinned the flat sheet onto her duvet (it's waiting for my mom to come and sew it into a real duvet cover- but it works for now! What can I say- I'm clever like that!!) My mom is also making a quilt that will go at the foot of her bed and will bring the whole room together.
We found some fun western picture frames and lamps- still need to get pictures in the frames, but we've been a little sidetracked with the cast on Em's foot;-)
Emily found this great lamp that is also a lantern, and she found a cowboy hat bank!
We have this cowboy cross hanging right by her door-it was a great find!
And so was this clock! I LOVE Hobby Lobby, and I was fortunate to find these great metal letters there a few weeks ago- we hung them up so they sort of resemble a ranch brand- Emily's idea!!
Well, that's it for today. I'll get more pics up of the kitchen area when my poor husband gets it done!! Actually, he's really excited about the way things are turning out, and he's now looking for more projects he can do around the house- YAY! Looks like it'll be a busy winter ;-) Won't be long before we will be ready to re-do the nursery!!!

When I get a new house you are so coming to decorate it!
You guys are always painting. :) I like the color choices though. And I'm with you on the whole "picking battles" thing. I swear Micah is an eating machine. He is always going to the pantry and pitching a fit to grab something. So, he grazes all day. But -- it keeps him quiet.
I have a "C" like the ones you have...found it at Hobby Lobby no less. LOL!
Hope your kiddos had a great first day at school!
Hope everyone had a great first day of school. Did miss Emily do okay this morning? I have been thinking about her and wish that the pain could just disappear!

Your house looks GORGEOUS! You have such great taste!
I 100% agree with the "picking your battles" thing, too. There have been many mornings where we have a "brunch" of pizza or corndogs ourselves!
